Our story is one of family

Frank “The Chief” Corrigan relocated to Dearborn, Michigan, in 1923, enticed by the $5 daily pay given by Ford Motor Company. At Ford, Frank worked nights on the Ford farms performing a range of varying jobs – at times even driving Henry Ford himself. The Chief was driven, and in the daytime when he was not employed at Ford he sustained an ice delivery company with his brother. After the Great Depression hit, Frank operated his trucks to help families forced from their houses move their possessions.

And thus, Corrigan Moving Systems was born.

World War II brought about a new difficulty to Frank and Corrigan Moving on account of the struggle finding workers during the war years. Frank’s oldest son, Paul Corrigan, was ordered back from the Air Force in 1945 to assist his family and the family company. Paul had hopes of attending college. Instead, he took on the company, going through what he named the “school of hard knocks”.

Paul was a gifted leader, and with his counsel Corrigan began to expand. In 1949, Corrigan joined United Van Lines because the idea of joining an agency-owned van line attracted Paul. The cooperative ownership structure allows agents, like Corrigan, management over the future of the van line.

Throughout the following four decades, the Corrigan family expanded in parallel with the business. Paul married Kathleen O’Hehir in 1954 and together they raised six kids. While growing up all six children worked at Corrigan.

In 1969 Corrigan started its second warehouse in Ann Arbor, Michigan and operated as a two-location company for the next 15 years. Starting in 1984, it kicked off a fast eight-year expansion and acquisition phase. New branches were opened in Auburn Hills, Toledo, Flint, Bay City and Grand Rapids. In 1987, Corrigan purchased a new warehouse facility in Farmington Hills and relocated their home office from the Dearborn location.

In 1995, the third generation assumed the executive positions at the moving business.

Corrigan Moving has always embraced expansion opportunities that would help increase its quality and service reach. Two top-tier options became available to David Corrigan, and so, in 2003, a location was added in Rochester, New York. A Chicago, Illinois location followed in 2006. These were the first Corrigan branches established in these states. Additional expansion brought a location in Cleveland, Ohio; and in 2018, a branch was added in Buffalo, New York. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania warehouse joined in 2022.

As Corrigan has advanced, it has also advanced its offerings. A long way from hauling ice, Corrigan now offers a broad variety of solutions such as household goods relocation, commercial and workplace relocations, record storage, systems furniture assembly and disassembly, logistics, and international freight forwarding.

Today, the Corrigan team continues to uphold Frank’s original mission. And because of that, we have grown into the most reputable moving company in the nation.
